Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger Scans and First Reactions

Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger is finally unveiled, and it's actually quite a surprise the route their taking. Last year when Zyuohger toy listing was revealed, everyone thought we were gonna get 6 starting heroes (that is until we discovered that Zyuoh Gorilla was a power-up form). This year we have a full house of 9 Heroes!! I find it both interesting and a little iffy. With a team this big I'd expect they start small and work their way up, but they're giving us a lot of characters to work with. Plus I also hear that Red-Blue-Black-Yellow-Green will be the core combo, while Pink-Orange-Gold-Silver will be the secondary rangers. This also seems to be breaking the pattern of post-anniversary series as they usually start with Trios and add 2 more members later on (Hurricaneger, Gekiranger, Go-Busters). While I like the suit designs, and find the helmets to be unique, I do hope that whoever the producer is will have a good explanation for this.

Also, if anyone's curious about Gender:
Shishi Red-Male
Ookami Blue-Male
Kajiki Yellow-Male
Chameleon Green-Female
Oushi Black-Male
Washi Pink-Female
Sasori Orange-Male
Tenbin Gold-Male
Hebitsukai Silver-Male

That makes 3 male Yellows in a row, the first female Green, the first Black since Kyoryuger, Gold & Silver on the same team, and the 4th Orange in Sentai after Battle Cossack, Toq-#6, & Zyuoh Bird.

The heroes main Henshin device is the Seiza Blaster. It's a gauntlet/wrist changer similar to Kyoryu Gold's Gaburi Changer. The main collectible this year are Kyutamas, which are supposedly Planet-like spheres. 4 more are scheduled to appear in the beginning of the series.

The Kyuza weapons will serve as their primary sidearm/main weapon. I can tell this is going to be the type of sidearm that doubles as their signature weapon. Sword for Red, Claw for Blue, Slasher for Yellow, Rapier for Green, Axe for Black, Shot for Pink, Spear for Orange, Crossbow for Gold, Sickle for Silver.

Above will be the heroes main mecha. While this is a space Sentai, the motif for the heroes are constellations, and so each ranger has an animal based on their constellation. The two scans also confirm the division of the two teams. Each of their mecha will be known as "Voyagers". Red, Blue, Black, Green, Yellow, Pink, and Orange's mecha will all be animals while Gold & Silver's will be humanoid. Interesting. Also, below is Kyuren-Oh using the 5 core mecha.

Final Verdict: These are only the initial scans, so I don't think my opinion on the designs will have an effect on the actual series itself. But I actually like the scans so far. Looking at them, it does feel more like Ninja Captor/Gransazer than Sentai with this many members. But again, I'll have to wait and see how the show plays out with this concept. The toys aren't bad though. I like the gauntlet changer and the sidearm-that's-also-their-main-weapon. The Mecha have nice designs, and I like how the Kyutama are incorporated into it. Speaking of which, Kyutama sounds like an interesting gimmick.

Overall, I like the designs, but it'll take a while for the 9-ranger team to grow on me~

First Reaction to The Loud House

As a kid, I was no stranger to Nickelodeon. I always loved the staple cartoons of my time like Spongebob, Fairly OddParents, Jimmy Neutron, etc. There was always a special charm to these shows that made them entertaining and memorable. Fortunately, in an era where most of Nickelodeon is meh, there are at least a couple bright spots.

My skeptical side would've initially written it off as "some modern-animation cartoon that would have annoying characters and be an insult to my intelligence", but I was proven wrong, as the show did surprise me. Animation that looked good? Characters that are entertaining and not annoying? Humor that's actually funny? Music that's catchy? Definitely a rarity in modern-age cartoons.

With that being said, I can safely say that I really like The Loud House, and it's a decent Nicktoon so far. The premise is basic: One boy who has to deal with 10 sisters, each with their own persona, and his adventures are as simple as dealing with his sister's trademark persona or trying to build his ego. This is a show that could have easily been a complete fail with a concept like that, and I'm glad Nickelodeon did not go that route. (I read in an interview that the creator Chris Savino was going to make this about a boy rabbit with 25 sisters. I'm glad he used his noggin because that would've been a terrible idea) For one, I really love the cast of characters. They may be a huge family, but that doesn't stop them from being a lovable group of rascals who fight, but still love and support one another.

For the most part, I like the characters. They each bring something to the table. Lori is a fun character, I see her as being a mellowed-down version of Vicky from the Fairly OddParents. Sure she's always attached to Bobby, and she can be strict at times, but at least she's not downright evil like Vicky is. Leni is the typical dumb blonde. Usually this would be a cliched stereotype, but I like how they play with it here. Luna is very chill and I love her rockstar passion. She's easily one of my favorite characters on the show. Luan is hilarious, she reminds me of Nossan from Kyoryuger and I can relate to her the most because of the comedian factor. Lynn is cool, she's sporty, and very playful. Lucy is alright, she's your typical goth girl. Lana and Lola are funny and they bring a Rugrats vibe to them (Lana reminds me of Phil/Lil, Lola reminds me of Angelica). I love Lisa, she's another one of my favorites as she's very intelligent and and is the brains of the family. As for Lily, she's a typical cartoon baby. Phew, that was a lot to go through.

Oh, I forgot Lincoln!!! I like him, he's basically the glue to the family, the everyman, and the only boy. He's a kid sure, but he always has a plan for everything, and when things go awry, he knows when to fix it. I like how he's calm, collected, and never always thinks for himself. I also give points for having a voice actor that actually sounds like a kid. As for his sisters: They also have great voice actresses. Sure they may not be the same age as their characters, but they work well, and I can buy that they are their characters.

I also like the side-characters too. Clyde is a fun character, and his parents are fun (I love how the fact that they're homosexual isn't even brought up/played for laughs). Bobby is funny, and I'm happy they brought back Carlos from Big Time Rush. Ronnie Anne is another cool character and I love the relationship she has with Lincoln. They love each other, they just don't like publicizing it (A relateable concept I might add).

One of the things that makes cartoons stand out are their humor. If done properly, it can be charming and memorable. With The Loud House, I can actually find the comedy entertaining. From the little references put into the show, to the situations coming from each of the characters personalities, right down to the subtle innuendos put in (Yes it's a kid's show, but I like how they play around with this type of humor as it shows that even older fans can get a laugh out of this show).

I'll add how I love the different plots each episode has and how it varies each time. It's episodic, but still memorable in it's own way. You have character episodes that pertain to a sister's persona (For Bros. About to Rock, Space Invader, The Loudest Yard, Toads and Tiaras), or where Clyde and Lincoln put their friendship to use (Roughin' It), and you even get family-focused episodes that focus on how big their family is (A Tale of Two Tables, No Guts No Glori, Undie Pressure, Picture Perfect). Some episodes are better than others, but they manage to be enjoyable in some way. Even when it's not as good, I'd take it any day over a good chunk of modern cartoons (I can recall more plots from The Loud House than Teen Titans Go!)

Overall, I'd say The Loud House has been a much-needed breath of fresh air for Nickelodeon, and it's a great representation of what a Nicktoon should be: Simple yet intriguing, funny, and memorable. It brings back a lot of those old-school vibes, and seeing as to how it's topped Spongebob for best Nicktoon, it's safe to say that I'm looking forward to more of what this show has to offer.

Fighting for Courage, Justice, and Hope!

Just one of my many spirit animals~

Welcome to my new blog!! Many of you know me best as Sebby-kun AKA former owner of Sebby-kun's Otaku Blog. I was going through some difficult times, so after some long thinking, I decided I was gonna start from scratch and create a new blog & alias.

The term Sentaku came to be because I'm a huge Super Sentai fan and I also consider myself an Otaku. The Hero part came to be because well, I love superheroes!! Plus it's a nod to Kyoryuger's roll call and explains why I have Kyoryu Red pictured above. Expect a lot of posts about the things I love, ranging from Super Sentai, to Kamen Rider, to Anime, to whatever else comes on my mind. In the meantime, stay tuned and enjoy your stay! ;-)
